Initial registration - minors

On this page you will find the procedure to register for minor/subsidiary courses at Tilburg University.

There are two types of minors:

  • 1: covenant minors
A covenant is an agreement between your current educational institution and Tilburg University. This covenant consists of a specific program and you take it in order to already complete pre-Master's courses, while you have not yet completed your HBO education.
  • 2: individual minors
At Tilburg University, you will take one or more courses that will be integrated into your study program at another HBO or WO educational institution. For this you need permission from your educational institution.

The registration procedure for both covenant minor students and individual minor students differs. Details are specified below.

The required forms and additional documents to complete the registration for a minor in the first semester should be handed in at Tilburg University's Student Administration before September 1. For registration for a minor starting in the second semester the deadline is February 1.

1: Initial registration as a covenant minor student

Follow the steps below for your initial registration as a covenant minor student:

Step 1: Registration

The contact person of your own institution will register you at Tilburg University by supplying a copy of your ID and your (email) address. In general, you do not have to take any action yourself. However, if you want to register for a covenant minor from TiSEM, you will also have to register yourself online once your own institution’s contact person has registered you. More information will be provided by the contact person.

Step 2: Login details Tilburg University account

The Student Administration will enter your details into Tilburg University's system. You will receive the login details for your Tilburg University account at your private email address. This account gives you access to the computer network and other systems of Tilburg University.

Step 3: Proof of tuition fee payment

If you still need to submit a Proof of tuition fee payment (BBC), you can request it at the institution where you have paid your tuition fees (if you have paid the statutory fee there). Only a BBC from a Dutch educational institution (funded by the Dutch government) will be accepted.

Step 4: Enrollment Certificate

Once all registration requirements have been met, you will receive an Enrollment Certificate by email. From then on, you are officially enrolled as a minor student at Tilburg University.

If you completed the entire registration procedure before September/February 1, but have not received an Enrollment Certificate by email by mid-September/mid-February, please contact the Student Desk.

2: Initial registration as an individual minor student

If you wish to take one or more minor(s) at Tilburg University on your own initiative, follow the procedure below.

Step 1: Ask for permission

For Bachelor's subject(s)

If you wish to take a minor in a Bachelor’s program, you must first obtain permission of your own institution. You must present a statement drawn up on original university letterhead, listing your name and the subject (or subjects) you wish to take.

Please note: if you want to take more than three Bachelor courses at Tilburg School of Humanities and Digital Sciences, always contact the Examination Board before submitting the request. You can submit the request only after approval from the Examination Board.

Please note: if you wish to take courses from the pre-Master Data Science in Business and Entrepreneurship, always contact the Admissions Officer/Education Coordinator at questions@jads.nl before submitting the request.

For Master's subject(s)

If you wish to take a minor in a Master’s program, you must first obtain permission of your own institution. You must present a statement drawn up on original university letterhead, listing your name and the subject (or subjects) you wish to take.

In addition for a Master's course, you must obtain permission of the relevant faculty of Tilburg University that is offering the course. You can request permission from the Examination Board. See overview Examination Boards. If you want to follow a course from one of TiSEM’s Master's programs, you have to ask for permission before the following date: August 1, for courses in the fall semester, and January 1, for courses in the spring semester.

Check the Course Catalog for an overview of all courses.

Step 2: Registration

Registration in both Bachelor’s and Master’s courses is done directly with the university. There is no need to use Studielink in these cases. Once you have obtained the required permission(s), you can register by downloading, completing and returning the registration form.

You must submit a number of documents along with the form:

  • Copy of your ID (no driving license).
  • Original permission letter(s) as mentioned.
  • An original Proof of tuition fee payment (BBC). You can get this document from your own institution; this BBC exempts you from paying tuition fees at Tilburg University. Only a BBC from a Dutch educational institution (funded by the Dutch government) will be accepted (if you have paid the statutory fee there).
